So Many Good Verses to Choose From!
I have picked select verse from each of our readings this week, but quite frankly it's worth reading every chapter! May god bless you as you seek him in his word!
This week’s Bible reading: Joshua 22-24; Judges 1-4; Acts 2-8; Jeremiah 11-17; Matthew 25-28; Mark 1-3
JOSHUA 22-24; JUDGES 1-4
“Now if you are unwilling to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served in the region beyond the River of the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” – Joshua 24:15
This verse or at least the second half of it is probably the best known verse in Joshua. Many see it as inspirational, but there is also a very sad side to it. Unlike Moses before him, Joshua does not raise up another leader to follow in his godly footsteps, he simply makes the statement, “as for me and my house we will serve the LORD.” Essentially he dares Israel to follow him; Israel does not, and the chaos of the book of Judges ensues.
Unfortunately the key verse from Judges this week is not a happy one:
“Then the Israelites did what was evil in the sight of the LORD…” – Judges 2:11…and 3:7…and 3:12…and 4:1…
ACTS 2-8
“Therefore let the entire house of Israel know with certainty that God has made him both Lord and Messiah, this Jesus whom you crucified.” – Acts 2:36
JEREMIAH 11-17
Oh man, so many good ones to choose from this week! How about this one!
“Therefore thus says the LORD: If you turn back, I will take you back, and you shall stand before me. If you utter what is precious, and not what is worthless, you shall serve as my mouth. It is they who will turn to you, not you who will turn to them. And I will make you to this people a fortified wall of bronze; they will fight against you, but they shall not prevail against you, for I am with you to save you and deliver you, says the LORD.” – Jeremiah 15:19-20
MATTHEW 25-28; MARK 1-3
“Now when the centurion and those with him, who were keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were terrified and said, ‘Truly this man was God’s Son!’” – Matthew 27:54
“And Jesus said to them, ‘Follow me and I will make you fish for people.’” – Mark 1:17
