M'Cheyne's Bible Calendar Week 31

This week’s Bible reading: Judges 12-18; Acts 16-22; Jeremiah 25-32; Mark 11-16; Psalms 1-2

JUDGES 12-18
Well it’s always nice to find a verse that encourages us and lifts our spirits. The book of Judges however doesn’t have much of that! What Judges does have is reminders of the consequences for disobeying God and trying to do things our own way!
“The Israelites again did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, and the LORD gave them into the hands of the Philistines forty years.” – Judges 13:1

ACTS 16-22
Check out Paul’s sermon in Acts 17! He begins it this way:
“Then Paul stood in front of the Areopagus and said, ‘Athenians, I see how extremely religious you are in every way. For as I went through the city and looked carefully at the objects of your worship, I found among them an altar with the inscription, ‘To an unknown God.’ What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you.’” – Acts 17:22-23

JEREMIAH 25-32
Jeremiah 31:31-34 is one of the most exciting passages in the entire Old Testament! Here God promises to make a new covenant with his people (a covenant that was made through his Son Jesus Christ). Here are a few snippets from these verses:
“The days are surely coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah…I will be their God and they will be my people…for I will forgive their iniquity, and remember their sin no more.”

MARK 11-16; PSALMS 1-2
“Jesus answered, ‘The greatest commandment is, ‘Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” – Mark 12:29-31
“Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of scoffers; but their delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law they meditate day and night.” – Psalms 1:1-2
