M'Cheyne's Bible Calendar Week 32
This week’s Bible reading: Judges 19-21; Ruth 1-4; 1 Samuel 1; Acts 23-28; Romans 1; Jeremiah 33-39; Psalms 3-14
JUDGES 19-21; RUTH 1-4; 1 Samuel 1
Do you remember when we studied Ruth last year? This is a beautiful story which reminds us of God’s faithfulness to his people. When it looked like there was no hope for Israel, God preserved the line of Judah from which he promised a king would be born. The end of Ruth looks forward to the birth of that king (and thus even further forward to the birth of Jesus!)
“Now these are the descendents of Perez: Perez became the father of Hezron, Hezron of Ram, Ram of Amminadab, Amminadab of Nahshon, Nahshon of Salmon, Salmon of Boaz, Boaz of Obed, Obed of Jesse, and Jesse of David.” Ruth 4:18-22
As First Samuel opens, we find the beautiful dedication of baby Samuel by his mother, Hannah.
“For this child I prayed: and the Lord has granted me the petition that I made to him. Therefore I have lent him to the Lord; as long as he lives, he is given to the Lord.” 1 Samuel 1:27-28
ACTS 23-28; ROMANS 1
Check out the miracle in Acts 28:1-6. Do we have the faith to trust that God still works like this? I pray that we do!!!
“For I am not ashamed of the Gospel; it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who has faith, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed through faith for faith; as it is written, ‘The one who is righteous will live by faith.’” Romans 1:16-17
JEREMIAH 33-39
How about a prophecy of Jesus 600 years before he walked the earth!
“For thus says the Lord: David shall never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel.” Jeremiah 33:17 – Jesus the eternal king fulfilled the eternal promise!
PSALMS 3-14
Psalm 8 is the only Psalm that is addressed entirely to God. It closes this way:
“O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth!” Psalm 8:9
