What Should I Read Next? An Alphabetical Answer 2
Earlier this week I posted an alphabetical list of suggestions for theology/non-fiction books. Here is an accompanying fiction list:
A - Alexander Solzhenitsyn (They’re all good but start with One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich - Technically fiction…but is it really?)
B - William Young Boyd (The Gentle Infantryman)
C - Christy Lefteri (The Beekeeper of Aleppo)
D - Alexander Dumas (The Count of Monte Cristo)
E - Tan Twan Eng (The Gift of Rain)
F - Empire Falls by Richard Russo
G - Geraldine Brooks - I’ve enjoyed most everything she’s written except The Secret Chord
H - Victor Hugo (Les Miserables; The Hunchback of Notre Dame)
I - I’m gonna cheat here and give you a non-fiction because Erik Larson is so good.
J - John Boyne (The House of Special Purpose)
K - To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
L - David Liss - Any and all. The Coffee Trader was my least favorite.
M - Colum McCann - I’ve only read Apeirogon but I plan on reading more
N - The Madonnas of Leningrad by Debra Dean
O - The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay
P - Primo Levi (If Not Now, When?)
Q - Quite literally anything by John Steinbeck
R - Erich Remarque - My favorite author
S - Troy Soos - especially good for baseball fans
T - Amor Towles (A Gentleman in Moscow)
U - Um, House on Endless Waters by Emuna Elon
V - Verily I say unto you, read Corelli’s Mandolin and Birds Without Wings by Louis de Bernieres
W - Michael White (Soul Catcher)
X - There is exactly one book that I read and then never read again because the first reading was so perfect: How Green Was My Valley by Richard Llewellyn
Y - You don’t need to read all of it (it gets a bit repetitive) but Catch-22 by Joseph Heller
Z - Carlos Ruiz Zafon (The Shadow of the Wind)
Not a complete list by any means. What would you put on your list?
